Orba
Carlos Ruano Llopis (Orba, Alicante, 1878 – Mexico, 1950) Born on April 10, 1878 in Orba, Alicante; He is the fourth in a family of seven siblings. Due to the family's financial needs after the premature death of his father, Ruano began working in a fan workshop, abandoning his studies until later beginning his formal artistic training at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia. In 1909 he received the Gold Medal at the Regional Exhibition, thus being able to enjoy a study scholarship with which he traveled to Italy. Since 1930 he kept his studio open in Madrid, alternating work in the Madrid city with his commissions in Valencia. One of his favorite themes is bullfighting, in fact, he became a painter of bullfighting posters, as well as several oil paintings on bullfighting themes. In addition, he collaborates in different newspapers and magazines that included his cartoons to illustrate bullfighting criticism. After the loss of his mother, in 1934 he moved to Mexico, where he would continue his artistic career working even for the Hollywood film industry with the design of posters for films such as Blood and Sand. Despite his desire to return to Spain, the illness he suffered did not allow him to do so, and he died in Mexico City in September 1950.
