Alginet, Valencia
José Espert Climent (Alginet, Ribera Alta, November 22, 1927 - Alginet, November 2015) was a Valencian painter. He painted his first painting at the age of 14. It is titled Sancho on Barataria Island. This is a scene from Don Quixote from the painting by Moreno Carbonell from Málaga. He entered the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia in 1945. He worked mainly on portraiture. He lived in Madrid, Paris and Rome and returned to Alginet when he already had prestige as a painter. His best exhibitions were in Valencia, Madrid and Milan. In 1999 he was named Alginet's favorite son for the contribution of his paintings with Julio Palau Lozano, Juliet el Pelotari, and Ismael Latorre Mendoza. Espert was the teacher of a group of painters that Adolfo de Azcárraga called the Alginet mini-school, such as: Antonio Alegre Quemadas, Vicente Benito Botella, Salvador Ribes Villalba, Manuel Blanco, Nydia Lozano and Felipe Santamans.
