Wonderful anatomical study, which distantly recalls the baroque style of Ribera, especially for the use of light and shadows, here more from above, and whose turnover we place in Granada between 1872-1873. The model was surely the gypsy Heredia Cortés, who also posed for others, such as Mariano Fortuny or Ricardo de Madrazo. During their previous apprenticeship at the Giggi Academy, which provided them with this type of life models, both the one from Reus and the one from Orihuela practiced with similar and complex difficult anatomies, very different from the academicism of the School of Fine Arts, because here the purely naturalistic reality of the human body and not the ideal of beauty still prevailing in the 19th century. An elderly male nude and so similar, on the other hand, in its physiognomy, to the Old Man Naked in the Sun, painted by Fortuny.
