Roma
Very much in line with the ciociaras (Italian peasant women in the middle of the 19th century), whose greatest exponent in Agrasot is their very famous Lavandera de la Scarpa. Here the model, instead of being from the center of the Italian peninsula, is from the south, probably from the vicinity of Portici (Naples). This “quadretto” bears a certain similarity to those painted by Rosales, Álvarez Catalá, Palmaroli or Josep Tapiró, each one seeking his personal interpretation of the peasant women who came to serve Rome. Once again, Agrasot's undoubted power is appreciated when reproducing the hands weaving and letting the thread fall to the ball on the ground, as well as his best knowledge and understanding of the ciociara on a plane: exposed brick arch, door and wall affected by the time that reflects the shadow of the girl in perfect synchronization of black on darkened earthy browns.
